A 60-year-old man was rescued Friday morning after a report of a swimmer in distress in waters off the Outrigger Kanaloa in Keauhou.

Responding to the 9:20 a.m. report, fire rescue personnel arrived to find the man being assisted by a bystander who helped get the man out of the shore break and into open water, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. A standup paddle boarder offshore also assisted in the effort.

Two fire department rescue personnel were subsequently deployed to assist the man. Upon reaching the paddle board, CPS was initiated until Rescue Boat 7 arrived. The victim and swimmer were extricated into the boat and CPR continued while the boat made its way to Keauhou Bay.

Upon reaching shore, Medic 12 personnel continued treatment and transported the man to Kona Community Hospital.

No further information was available on the man’s condition. Police also did not have any further information.
